If I had a family:                            

If I had a family I would be the happiest girl in the world. My name is Ibra and I’m nine years old and I’m from Senegal. My parents died two weeks after my first birthday. If I had a family I would be very lucky. If I had a family, we would live in a house; I would help my parents to clean our house and to fix the garden. If I had a family I would celebrate Christmas with them and I would decorate our house. If I had a family, my dad would take me to school, he would help me with my homework and he would be very funny. If I had a sister, she would probably be my best friend, I would play with her every day and I would share my room with her. If I had a brother we would play sports together and with my sister, he would take care of me and he would be fantastic. If I had a mum, she would be the person more loved by me in the world, she would give me advice and we would be friends. If I had a family, I would have a pet. If I had a pet, I would want a dog. If I had a dog, its name would be Tommy. If I had grandparents I would like to go to their house and they would give me some bars of chocolate. Having a family doesn’t mean that you go to school, but if I had a family they would try to give me a good life. My cousins would come to our house at the weekend and we would play in the garden. Once a month the whole family would eat together and we would play team games. Sometimes I dream about having a family, it’s difficult but I will try it. Now, I’m writing this letter from the orphanage, and I want you to adopt me or someone, I have been waiting for that moment for a long time and I will never lose hope.

If I had a job…

 

If I had a job, I would be happier. If I had a job, I would go there every day, and I would work very hard. If I had a job, I would work for my city. If I had a job I wouldn't have to steal to eat and to survive. If I had a job I would earn money, and I would pay for a doctor.

 

If I had a doctor I wouldn´t be so bad. If I had a doctor I would be healthier than now. If I had a doctor, I would live more time. If I had a doctor I would have medicine when I´m ill. If I had a doctor, I wouldn´t have as many problems as I have now, because I have mental problems, psychological problems, back problems, etc... If I had a job and I had a doctor, we would have better health and we would have a better life.

 

If I had a job, I would have money to have a house. If I had a house, my family and I wouldn´t get cold at night, because we would have a roof, and we would be warm. If I had a job, we would have a bed. If I had a bed, we would sleep better than now, because we´re cold and uncomforted and we have back problems. If I had a job, I would have a small refrigerator. If I had a refrigerator, I would put the food there and it wouldn´t have germs, so we wouldn´t be ill.

 

If I had a job, I would buy a pencil. If I had a pencil I would learn to write. If I had a pencil I would write all my dreams and I would think they were real. If I had a pencil, I would write a diary and I would write every day on it, and after I would write it and remember those days. If I had a pencil I would imagine it was a magic wand and I would think I was a wizard.  If I had a pencil, I could imagine that I play the drums and make music. If I had a pencil, I would imagine I have an imaginary microphone.

 

If I had a job, I would have a cardboard box. Then, I would imagine I have a boat. If I had a cardboard box I would imagine I have a car. If I had a cardboard box I would imagine I have a tablet. If I had a cardboard box I would put thing in it to move them.

                                                                      

If I had a job I would have clean water. If I had clean water I would clean myself every day. If I had clean water I would drink it and I wouldn´t walk many kilometers to find it. If I had clean water I would have a better health, because sometimes I must drink contaminated water and many persons die for it.

 

If I had a job, I would have food and I would eat more, so I wouldn´t be so thin. If I had food I would plant some of it to obtain more. If I had food and I plant it, I would watch every day how it improves and how it grows.  If I had food and I plant it, I would be as many times as I could recollect the harvest.

 

If I had a job, I would have a paperclip. If I had a paper clip, I would play with it. If I had a paperclip I would imagine that I had a knife and I would stop the thieves. If I had a paperclip, I would take some small things.

If I had a family

            If I had a family, I wouldn’t be alone. Nowadays, when I see a family in the street, even if they are poor or they are arguing, I think that they are lucky, because they have company and I haven’t.

            If had a family, I would be happier, because I could count on them. Maybe they would listen to me when I had problems and try to find solutions for me. Nowadays, when I have a problem, I have not got someone to talk about it.  

            If I had a true family, I wouldn’t be in an orphanage and I would have my own house. I wouldn’t have to change families anymore. Sometimes, when I’m in a foster family and they have problems with their job, or with other people, they hit me. When that happens, I have to go to the orphanage again and wait for another family to take me to their house. I think that this isn’t a true family.

            If I had a family, I wouldn’t live in the street. I would live in a house and I would have hot water to take a shower and good clothes to go to school. If I had a family I would have all that a girl, like me needs to be happy.

            If I had a family, I wouldn’t work in a factory to pay for the doctor. Nowadays, I have to work there with other children like me, because we have to work to live. Some of those children have a family, but they don’t take care of them.  

            If I had a family, I would have an example to follow. If my father was a doctor, I could be one and try to help other people. If my mother was a teacher, I could teach children, and teach them as well as I can, because if I teach them very well, they could have a good job in the future and live better than I live now.

            If I had a family, I would have better health, because my parents could take me to the doctor. Nowadays, when I have a cold, nobody takes care of me and I feel very bad. When I am coughing in the street, people use to get away from me, because they think that I could infect them, and that is not true.

            If I had a family, I would go to school. I would know how to write and how to read. I would have a good education and in the future, I could have a good job, because in the future I would like to be a doctor and travel around the world helping people.

            If I had a family, I would listen to some stories at night when I cannot sleep. I know that some parents count stories to their children when they are afraid. At night I am afraid of being kidnapped, that is my only fear.

            If I had a family, I could travel abroad. I would like to visit many countries and learn how people live there. I know that more or less, all of the cities around the world have buildings, parks, cars and people, but, do they live in the same way as me? Are there children living in the street? Do children work in factories? Do children work to live? Those questions are the main reason that I would like travel.

               

If I had a well - Laura Martinez 2ºAR

If I had...

          If I had a well I wouldn´t have to walk and walk under the blazing sun to get water for my family. My name is Kayla, I’m eleven years old and I live in Zambia. I wake up every morning to get water for my family, and then I have to take care of my brothers and make the food since my mother is selling bracelets, rings and necklaces in the market.

          I have no education; I most do the housework. Sometimes the money that my mother earns isn´t enough for the whole family to eat. Also I have no father but if I had one I am sure that he would get me to school , and I would learn a lot and when I would grow up I would be the best sales person of my city , or what is more , maybe I would be the president of the country! But I know it won´t happen

          Two times a week I have to visit my aunt, she´s very sick, she has AIDS, so she can´t go outside the home because people would discriminate against her.

          One day a colorful letter arrived to my house. It called my attention a lot because not many letters arrive to my house, nervously I opened it but, at that moment I remembered that I didn´t know how to read. Quickly I went to the ancient men in the village and he read it to me.

It said:

-UNICEF

-Dear Kayla, we are from a children´s organization and we have found a family who wants to sponsor you, they are the family Peña Gomez and they are from Spain.

They want to help you and give you money to make better your life.

If you agree please send us back the letter.

With the letter there was a picture of a smiley family. They looked so happy. There was an old man with his wife and two pairs of mothers and fathers with their children.

          That afternoon I told that news to my mother and she got very happy. At the next day we sent back the letter. Since that month all the months money arrived to us from that family.

          In that summer the family visited us, and that was the best summer of my life. They performed our house and then went back to Spain.

          Then I started to go to school with the money of the family because my grandma came to take care of my brothers. I was learning lots of things and I was so happy. One of the things that I learned was to write and read, and since then I have written every months to the Peña Gomez family. They got so proud of me and also wrote to me.

Some afternoons I helped my mother in the market and I did it very well. All my life was great except… my aunt was still so sick. And one day, she died.

It hurt me but with the time I overcame it. Though time I started to work and I didn´t need the Peña Gomez family´s money. I lived happy with my family.

If I had a pencil

            If I had a pencil, I would demonstrate that I am not only able to take water from one place to another or to help my family to clean the house. I am able to do many things, like writing. I could write whatever I want, my adventures and experiences, stories and poems, take notes to learn, teach other people to write, etc…

            If I had a pencil, I would describe all my adventures, my experiences, my feelings... I wouldn’t have to remember the main things and forget the details.

            If I had a pencil, I would become a professional writer with my amazing stories and fantastic poems. I wouldn’t have to dream it; I would have to live it. I could live doing what I want, being a writer.

            If I had a pencil, I would have a better education because I wouldn’t forget the things I learn if I wrote them in papers. And, if I don’t learn in the school, in the future, I will not have a good job and I won’t earn much more money to live better.

            If I had a pencil, I would draw how I see the world, instead of imagining it. The tall trees, the colourful flowers, the docile animals, the people living in peace, no death from lack of food or water, all the happy families, the world without wars…

If I had a pencil, I would give it to my family and friends, as a gift, in special days. Because, what good is it having something that only you enjoy?

            If I had a pencil, I would have fun with it, imagining that I am an amazing wizard that can disappear in front of the people, can fly to very far places and can do other incredible tricks; a conductor travelling to other countries to direct the most famous Mozart’s symphonies; or an international drummer touring around the world.

            If I had a pencil, I would write all the things that happen throughout the day in my diary. I could save it and in the future I would see it and remember the incredible things that happen, like when I got my first pencil and started to do things that I like, write and draw whatever I want. And, if I became a famous person, I could sell my diary and earn money.
