If I had a doctor- Maria Zabaleta 2ºAR

If I had a doctor…
If I had a doctor I would have a family. My name is Syma and I am 14 years old. I live in Gambia, in a small town call Britang. I don’t have a family, I don’t have an education. I have nothing in my life. My father, my mother and my three sisters died in 2010 due to illnesses that in other countries are preventable. My father died the 4th of March in 2010 because he had bronchitis and we couldn´t takes him to the hospital. It is 40km to the north. My mother and my 2 sisters died the same time on the 15th of July due to diarrhea. Finally, my youngest sister died with 2 months of age the 30th of September. On the 16th of April of 2012 an ONG came to my village to take care of us for a few months. They gave us many things; they built a school, a small hospital… One month later I had all the illnesses in the world: malaria, bronchitis, diarrhea… so I went to the hospital and they told me that in my village they did not have the necessary medicines to cure me, so I had to go to the city. On September 3rd I went to the city. They examined me and 2 hours after they gave me the news that I had only 2 months to live.
If I had a doctor, I wouldn’t die, but this is my destiny, the best is that I am going to gather my family. I am writing this story because I know that the entire world is going to read it and to show them that this is not the perfect life but it is my life and I have to enjoy it the most. Maybe you have more things than underdeveloped countries, but we know much more how to take advantage of the things around us. If you have any disease you go to the hospital in any moment. If you are thirsty, you drink a glass of water in a minute, but in my country we do not have those types of privileges. We have to walk 50 kilometers to find water from a well, we do not go to school;for you we are nothing, but for us we are the world. Maybe you think that our life is disgusting but it is not; at leastwe have the opportunities to live in this great and beautiful world, and this is the only thing that is important.

If I had transport - Jana Piñel 2ºAR

If I had transport…
If I had transport, my life would be more comfortable. My name is Faith, I am eleven years old and I live in a small village in Niger. My everyday life is hard. I usually help my father and brothers to do the housework. My mother died when I was only four years old. I have endearing memories of her, singing to me beautiful songs. Even now, we haven’t got idea of the cause of her illness. Maybe, she was attacked by an unusual disease, one of the many that often carried the lives of our neighbors and acquaintances.
If I had transport, I would escape from this. I am afraid, because soon I will be old enough to get married. In my country, girls are married at an early age. My father said that I must marry with someone before I am too old, because then maybe nobody will want me. I didn’t have idea of the meaning of marriage before it ended the life of one of my friends. Her name was Adeyemi, and she was five years older than me. She was our neighbor, and I usually came to her house when I was a child to play with her. We went to fetch water together, and she always helped me. She was like a sister to me. Two years ago, I received the news that she was going to get married with a man and moved to another village with him. She was also forced to abandon their studies. I was so sad, but my father said that she had found her path and I had to forget her. The day before her departure, she visited me in secret. She hugged me between sobs. “Sorry,” she said. I didn’t understand her. “We are victims of a cruel fate. Try to avoid it. You'll never see me again. Try to live your life; despite what others say, we have the same rights as men.” With these words, she left the room. A few months later, my father was talking with my brothers, and I realized that they were talking of Adeyemi. She had died in her house, a few weeks ago. News travels fast between people of different populations. I asked other women, and they said to me that she was badly treated by her husband. She was found dead in her house, with several blows. However, nobody did anything against her husband. I was indignant and unhappy, but I couldn’t do anything; in fact, I couldn't even give my opinion.
If I had transport, like a simple bicycle, I would be able to study. One of my dreams is learning to write and read. When I see something written on a sheet or a placard, I can only see strange sings that I cannot understand. One day, I said shyly to my father, “Can I go to school to learn how to read?” He watched to me, missed. “You don’t need to read, you only need to do your work to sustain this family,” he said. I begged him, and finally he said, “If you have done all your work, you can walk to school after go to fetch water. And you should bring water before go to school.” I was happy, but not for much more time. I realized soon that I didn’t have sufficient time to do everything, because school was so far from my house. But with a bicycle, I would go to school every day or at least one or two days a week, because I would be faster and I could return home after fetching water for my family early. I wouldn’t be illiterate, and then I would have the opportunity to travel.
If I had transport, I would move to a better place to rebuild my life, where the water flows free and nature is above your head, where I heard that there is the biggest extension of water you have never seen, the sea. His water is not brown, it hasn’t got any color! I would sail in a boat and catch fish for lunch. I would stay in a pretty house near to the sea. I wouldn’t be poor anymore! I dream to visit once this place, one of the many places that Kayode describes in her stories. Kayode is the oldest woman of my village. The third night of every week, all the children surround her in her house. We listen attentively to her. She talks about unknown lands and legends, she told us stories that her forefathers already told to his children. Then, I am transported to a fantastic place, where illness and suffering are the result of forgetting.
If I had transport, I would go to a rich country to see buildings that touch the clouds, boxes with images and sound and magic taps with clean water. It would be fantastic. But, then, I would remember the bad conditions in my country, the long walks to fetch water, the strange diseases, as the ones that took my mother, the cruel fate of Adeyemi, the many obstacles, especially for girls, to study… And then, I would realize that the stories that Kayode told us in her house were only a fantasy, and that the injustices in life are a reality. I would realize that the only ones that can do something against this are them, the foreign men, because the main injustice is that I haven’t got the necessary means to do something, and I am trapped in a prison. If I had transport…, I would tell everyone the problems that we have. Maybe, they will listen to me and I will convince them that we need help and they must help us.

If I had a house - Jesus Ortega 2ºAR

If I had a house
If I had a house I would live in it and I would not have to be cold every night sleeping in the street with my parents and seeing how other people sleep in their warm houses. If I had a house I would not have to listen to the noisy cars every night that do not let me sleep peacefully. If I had a house I would not have back problems from the hard floor that I have to sleep on. If I had a house I would have a dining room with a large table and a lot of chairs to have meals with my family. If I had a house I would have a kitchen with all the instruments that I need to learn how to cook. If I had a house I would have a big sofa with a television to see the news, films and football matches. If I had a house I would have a beautiful bedroom painted in green with a window that has some amazing views. If I had a house I would have a dog house.
If I had a job
If I had a job I would buy a dog to take care of him. If I had a job I would buy a pencil with the money that I earned to write letters to my family and my friends. If I had a job I would go to restaurants to eat good food with my family. If I had a job I would buy clothes to wear at night because I get very cold. If I had a job I would have a house for all my family who sleeps with me in the street. If I had a job I would give money to NGOs to help poor people like me because I know that it is difficult to live being poor.

If I had freedom of speech - Altea Cardo 2ºAR

If I had freedom of speech…
If I had freedom of speech, I would be the voice of everyone in my country, even if the Government took me to jail. I would say everything that we think about rich people that use us for their own luxuries. Can they imagine, just for a second, that we have feelings? They can’t separate us from our families; they can’t exploit us like animals. Well, they are rich people and they can.
If I had freedom of speech, I would talk to my people about fighting for our rights. Just because we haven’t got money, identification cards, good clothes or education, that’s not reason to USE us. They might be more intelligent, richer and powerful than us, but they will never be better people than us.
If I had freedom of speech, I would talk to the women of my country and make them see that they shouldn’t be manipulated by any man. Women should also have power, and they are not inferior in any sense. There are amazing women in my country, like Mikalita. Mikalita’s 17 years old. She works very hard every single day to feed her family. She walks eight Kilometers every day in 38 ºC and, at the end of the day, she suffers domestic violence by her husband. Yet she resists.
If I had freedom of speech, I would just say that I’m a 14 years-old girl and all I want is a chance to show that I care about undeveloped countries like my own, about my future, and about showing the world that in every second you are taking a shower, a man from my country is praying for take one before dying. Every second you are fighting with your boyfriend about he had left something misplaced, a woman from my country is crying in a corner because “her boyfriend” has sexually violated her last night. Every second you are wishing that there wasn’t school, a child from my country is praying to have an education one day instead of having to work in a factory or fight in a war.
But, you know what? At the end, we have nothing to lose. We are from the Congo, a place who nobody knows. Help us.

If I had an education - Martin Silvan 2ºAR

If I had...
If I had an education I would have more opportunities in the future. I would have electricity, a house, and a job. With an education I would earn money to have a family and look after my son help him with his homework...

Some people who have education and don´t know how important it is. If I had one I would work so hard in the school, I´d try to be one of the best students to have a better future.

If I had an education the people in the street would treat me better because if you are polite society will accept you easier than if you are impolite.

If I had an education I would try to help people who don´t .I would help them to learn and to be polite, because if all of us have a good education the countries will be better in general.

I had an education I would have enough money to buy food, medicine and to pay for a doctor for all the members of my family.

I will do everything in my power to have a good education.

If I had an education I would learn biology and specialize ornithology because I think it is very interesting and it is my dream, of course I don´t want  to study other types of biology but I preferred  to be an ornithologist.
Also I would work as an environmental lawyer because I think environment is very important in our lives, currently because now we are polluting a lot and it is very important to care about the environment.

Education makes you polite because you learn how to treat with other people, respect, be more responsible...

If I had an education I wouldn´t steal because I would have a job and I would earn money.
